Yankees defeat Astros in first game of the series

At Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros 10-3 in the opening game of the series. Alex Verdugo was the most productive player for the New Yorkers, with 13 hits. During the throwing session, Luis Gil earned his third victory of the year and the losing pitcher, Justin Verlander, took his first loss.

Former Boston Red Sox infielder Alex Verdugo went an outstanding 3-for-5 with four RBIs in the game. The Mexican player scored three runs with a home run in his first at-bat. Juan Soto and Aaron Judge also scored. He later added another RBI single in his second at-bat of the game, which gave the Dominican team another run.

Stanton and Volpe roar through the forest.
Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Volpe each hit the woodwork in the first game against the Astros. With a full turn, the shortstop scored two runs in the fourth inning. The designated hitter made it 7-1 with a solo homer in the fifth inning. With a ball speed of 118.8 mph, Stanton’s home run was the strongest of the season.

Judge continued with the eighth
Thanks to Aaron Judge, the “Bronx Bombers” kept up their strong hitting in the sixth inning. Judge increased the Yankees’ lead to 8-1 with a single to center field that sent Jon Berti home. In 2024, the gifted outfielder has scored 21 runs.

Batting comeback in the seventh
In the seventh inning, eight of the nine Yankees faced the bat, and the New York squad scored two more runs to make ten. Stanton got a walk in after Jon Berti drove him in. With a ground ball to second base, where Berti was out, Volpe added another and Anthony Rizzo reached base.

Even though the Astros improved the score in the final inning, it was insufficient. Houston departed Yankee Stadium with three runs after Jon Singleton and Victor Caratini scored on a ground ball that Trey Cabbage hit that split the diamond.
