Caitlin Clark, the star of the Indiana Fever, earned an estimated $11.1 million in 2024, placing her among the highest-paid female athletes worldwide. Even though she was the first overall choice in the 2024 draft and was arguably the league’s face, just a very small portion of the revenue came from her WNBA salary and bonuses, which totaled about $100,000.
The Fever could only pay Clark $208,219 under the league’s current CBA, even if they were to offer her a maximum deal right now. In contrast, the NBA will pay a minimum wage of $1,157,153 for the 2024–25 season. In a recent interview with ESPN, Clark’s agent made it obvious that she is incredibly undervalued.
Will the WNBA ever compensate Caitlin Clark for her true value to the organization? Erin Kane, Clark’s agent, stated, “I don’t think that’s possible.”
Kane, however, represents more than merely Clark. She really represents a number of the league’s top players, including Dallas Wings standout Arike Ogunbowale and reigning WNBA MVP runner-up Napheesa Collier, both of whom Kane claims receive inadequate compensation.
Clark is a member of a wider group of players. They all require more compensation. She needs to be honored for her contributions to the league’s economy and accomplishments. That’s all there is to it,” Kane said. Paying NBA players for their on-court efforts has always been the most crucial factor. I sincerely hope that this CBA agreement will be forward-thinking and significantly advance the line.
It’s unlikely that AD Clark will ever run out of money. In 2024, she earned around $11 million from endorsement deals alone, and that figure may probably increase. However, it’s obvious that her worth to the WNBA and her on-court performance far surpass any compensation they could offer.
A new CBA is presently being negotiated between the WNBA and its players association. Salary increases under the new deal are probably going to be pretty substantial. However, as Kane stated, it’s doubtful that she will ever be compensated for her value on the court unless maximum contracts are eliminated.
