The New Orleans Saints are continuing to build their coaching staff following the appointment of Kellen Moore as their new head coach. Their latest addition is a new defensive coordinator, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
According to Rapoport, “The Saints are hiring former Chargers coach Brandon Staley as the defensive coordinator under Kellen Moore, per The Insiders. Staley was an assistant with the 49ers this year and previously made a name for himself as the Rams’ defensive coordinator before moving to the Chargers. Now, he takes on a new role in New Orleans.”
Staley is expected to be a strong addition to the Saints’ staff, bringing experience in crafting effective defensive strategies, which will be crucial for the team in the upcoming season.

The Saints are embarking on a fresh start with several new personnel changes, beginning with Kellen Moore’s hiring. Moore, who has a wealth of experience in offensive coaching, is expected to introduce innovative and dynamic strategies to enhance the team’s performance.
Brandon Staley’s arrival adds another young and talented coach to the Saints’ staff. As the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, he was instrumental in shaping one of the league’s top defensive units. However, his tenure as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers did not yield the same success, as the team struggled to reach the next level under his leadership.
Despite his challenges as a head coach, Staley has proven himself as an adept defensive coordinator. Returning to a role where he has previously excelled could be beneficial not only for him but also for the Saints. After experiencing several disappointing seasons, the franchise aims to regain its former dominance. With Kellen Moore’s offensive expertise and Staley’s defensive acumen, New Orleans hopes to rebuild its reputation as a top-tier team.
