Whether Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams and former Detroit Lions, will return to Los Angeles for the upcoming season is a topic of much discussion. Although Stafford has stated that he hopes to continue playing in the NFL in 2025, a deal with the Rams is not certain.
Colin Cowherd, a sports broadcaster and NFL analyst, is providing some inside knowledge on the Rams’ current position regarding Stafford’s contract extension.
Wife and Matthew Stafford Report: Getting on the Rams’ Nerves
Cowherd discusses the current Rams signal caller and the NFL quarterback position in general, as well as the previous Detroit Lions signal caller, in his February 13 episode of his show. She said on the show that he was “going to propose something” based on his inside information after he “made a couple of calls yesterday and a couple of texts this morning.”
He mostly suggested Aaron Rodgers to the Los Angeles Rams and Stafford to the New York Giants. Crazy, huh? Even more intriguing, though, was what he said about Stafford rejoining the Rams.
Cowherd claimed that the front office in Los Angeles was sick of hearing about Stafford and his wife, Kelly, appearing on her program and blaming the Rams head office for choices like firing Cooper Kupp.
Cowherd remarked, “The Rams like Matt Stafford, but they’re tired of the quarterback talk and his wife saying things in public.” “They’re not particularly pleased that Cooper Kupp made public something they tried to keep private.”
“They’re a little over Cooper Kupp, and with that, a little bit Matt Stafford,” he continued. Although they like him, they are unwilling to grant him a new contract or modify his existing one.
A former Lions quarterback may be headed to New York.
Regarding Stafford joining the Giants, Cowherd said that the team doesn’t care about “quarterback class, and head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen have to win or they’ll be fired by Thanksgiving.” They will be forced to leave the building.
“I think they’re going to try to get Matt Stafford,” he continued.
Moving on to Stafford’s wife’s remarks, she discussed Kupp being informed that the Rams intended to move him on the February 6 episode of her podcast, “The Morning After.”
On the broadcast, she stated, “I honestly wasn’t planning on discussing this, but hell, why not?” “It seems like my hubby wants to win. He is not attempting to negatively impact a team. You’re catching my drift, if you’re paying attention.
In addition, she fueled speculation that Stafford would be traded by stating that, although she enjoys “the city of L.A.”, she also enjoys “an adventure.”
Stafford signed a contract with the Rams at the end of the previous campaign, which included a 2024 season rise but no long-term pact. In 2025, Stafford has a $49.6 million limit. By dealing him in after June 1st or before June 1st, Los Angeles could save $27 million or $23 million.
