Even though the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated the fourth-ranked USC Trojans in Iowa City on Sunday, February 2, Indiana Fever standout Caitlin Clark managed to claim the day.
Following the shocking upset that some fans paid hundreds of dollars to witness, the university retired Clark’s No. 22 jersey, showcasing her star power at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
However, the prearranged postgame ceremony when the Hawkeyes hoisted Clark’s number to the rafters was included in those ticket prices.
The Fever posted a message to the WNBA’s current Rookie of the Year on social media after the celebration. The Fever said on X, “There will never be another 22 for Iowa Women’s Basketball.”
“Congratulations, Caitlin Clark.” For around the first half of the third quarter, Clark engaged the game’s commentators, responding to a variety of inquiries and thanking the school and its supporters.
After her postgame presentation, she took the microphone and addressed the Carver-Hawkeye audience personally, citing her old Iowa teammates as crucial players in all of her collegiate achievements.
Clark also took a minute to speak to the players on the USC bench, who, in spite of a tough defeat at the hands of the Hawkeyes, stayed on the court to see the presentation.
