The Pittsburgh Steelers face crucial decisions at quarterback this offseason. Both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, who shared starting duties for Pittsburgh last season, are currently without contracts. Wilson joined the Steelers on a one-year deal after being released by the Denver Broncos, while Fields played the final year of his rookie contract following a trade from the Chicago Bears.
Pittsburgh has signaled a desire to retain one of the two but is unlikely to bring back both. This suggests that unlike last offseason, when the team overhauled its entire quarterback room, the Steelers may aim for more stability in 2025.
However, Wilson could have alternative destinations, with the Las Vegas Raiders emerging as a potential suitor. His former coach from Seattle, Pete Carroll, is now leading the Raiders and could be interested in a reunion. With Las Vegas in need of a quarterback upgrade, Wilson might be an appealing option.
Carroll, however, remained noncommittal when asked about the possibility of reuniting with Wilson. “It’s too early. We’re still figuring out the puzzle pieces,” Carroll said. “Free agency hasn’t started yet, but if you’re a competitor, you don’t let options slip away.”
The Raiders currently have Gardner Minshew and Aiden O’Connell under contract, but neither solidified themselves as a long-term starter. Given Carroll’s competitive nature, it wouldn’t be surprising if Las Vegas pursued an experienced quarterback like Wilson to help lead the franchise in his first season at the helm.
