With another offseason month wrapping up, the countdown to the 2025 NFL Draft stands at just 24 days. Teams are busy evaluating prospects through pro day workouts and final meetings. Meanwhile, league representatives, including Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell and General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, have gathered in South Florida for the annual league meeting. Vikings Entertainment Network’s Tatum Everett plans to interview both men, along with team owner/president Mark Wilf. Additional content from the meeting is on the way.

As April begins, fans should stay mindful of April Fool’s Day pranks circulating on social media. Now, let’s dive into some questions.

Quarterback Concerns

Many Vikings fans have expressed unease about the team’s quarterback situation heading into the new season. One fan, Cyrus Sutherland, criticized the team’s inaction in acquiring a proven quarterback, questioning whether Brett Rypien is a suitable backup.

Adofo-Mensah recently addressed this concern, expressing confidence in the current QB room. He specifically praised Rypien’s decision-making, athleticism, and accuracy while acknowledging the team remains open to upgrades. He also emphasized that many quality players are still available, and roster changes could occur as the offseason progresses.

Tim Brandenburg from Blue Grass, Iowa, raised a similar question about why the Vikings are committing to J.J. McCarthy while letting experienced quarterbacks sign elsewhere. Adofo-Mensah clarified that players like Sam Darnold, Nick Mullens, and Daniel Jones left via free agency rather than waivers, each making independent decisions about their careers. He also reminded fans that the team made a late-summer trade for Mullens in 2022, suggesting that quarterback acquisitions can still happen before the season.

Another fan, “Vic King” from Idaho, questioned the frustration over McCarthy while suggesting the Vikings should draft North Dakota State’s Cam Miller. He highlighted Miller’s extensive college experience, which includes 50+ starts and four FCS Championship appearances. While the Vikings may consider adding a young quarterback through the draft or free agency, the organization remains confident in McCarthy, whom they traded up to select in 2024.

DL Schomisch also recommended an FCS quarterback, Montana State’s Tommy Mellott, arguing that his passion and drive could make him the next Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes. However, while Mellott has impressive statistics, achieving that level of success is extremely challenging given the high standards set by Allen and Mahomes.

Injury Concerns

Finally, a 69-year-old fan questioned concerns about McCarthy’s meniscus surgery, arguing that it is a routine procedure. They shared their personal experience of recovering from a similar surgery at age 36, returning to full work within weeks. The fan believes McCarthy, with access to top-tier medical care, should have no issues recovering.
