Officially Vikings News: Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell Confirms Three Top Sensational Star Players Just Terminate Contract Due To…

The Minnesota Vikings continue to signal their confidence in 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy as their starting quarterback. However, they remain open to adding a veteran presence, with Ryan Tannehill emerging as a potential option.

Tannehill, originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, found success with the Tennessee Titans, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2019. After sitting out the 2024 season, he could make his return to the NFL with the Vikings, who have reportedly expressed interest.

According to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, the Vikings have engaged in discussions with Tannehill about a possible deal, though no agreement is imminent at this time.

In 2023, Tannehill completed 64.8% of his passes for 1,616 yards, throwing four touchdowns and seven interceptions for the Titans. An ankle injury sidelined him for two weeks before he was ultimately benched in favor of rookie quarterback Will Levis.

With the Vikings having moved on from pursuing Aaron Rodgers, Tannehill has emerged as a more serious consideration. However, former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Joe Flacco also remains a free agent option for the team.

Tannehill’s Connections to the Vikings

At 36 years old, Tannehill is younger than Rodgers and Flacco, both of whom are over 40. His potential fit with the Vikings is strengthened by a key connection—he shares the same agent as McCarthy.

Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling recently suggested that Tannehill could be a logical veteran addition for the Vikings, given their desire for an experienced backup in case McCarthy struggles or sustains an injury.

Goessling explained that Tannehill’s age and familiarity with McCarthy’s representation could create an opportunity for him in Minnesota.

A Potential Roadblock: Tannehill’s Happiness in Nashville

Despite Minnesota’s interest, Tannehill may not be eager to relocate. According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the veteran quarterback is content in Nashville, having earned nearly $200 million throughout his career. Any move would need to be a compelling opportunity for him and his family.

Additionally, Tannehill’s ties to McCarthy could present an awkward dynamic, especially if the Vikings were to suggest he has a chance to start. This could create tension within the organization, as McCarthy is expected to lead the team moving forward.

Tannehill has faced scrutiny in the past for his stance on mentoring younger quarterbacks. In 2022, he received criticism for stating it was not his responsibility to mentor then-rookie Malik Willis in Tennessee.

While the Vikings’ need for a veteran quarterback remains, it is unclear whether Tannehill would be willing to make the move. If a deal doesn’t materialize, Minnesota may continue exploring other options in free agency.
