Heading into the 2025 WNBA season, the Indiana Fever’s biggest offseason priority was strengthening their wing depth. The front office successfully addressed this need by signing experienced, championship-winning veterans Natasha Howard and DeWanna Bonner.
However, the fever didn’t stop at free agency. They also made a key trade to acquire former Phoenix Mercury standout Sophie Cunningham, who averaged 8.9 points per game while shooting 37.8% from beyond the arc in 2024.
Cunningham has long expressed her desire to play alongside Fever star Caitlin Clark, and now that dream has become a reality as Clark enters her second WNBA season.
On March 11, Cunningham visited Gainbridge Fieldhouse for the first time in her new role with Indiana, ahead of her introductory press conference. The Fever’s social media team captured the moment, sharing a video of her exploring the locker room and seeing her new jersey for the first time.
“Oh gosh, this is the first time I’ve seen my jersey,” Cunningham said in the clip.
Clearly overjoyed, she added, “I love this!” before turning to the camera with a beaming smile and saying, “It’s like I’m a rookie all over again.”
Cunningham’s excitement is evident, and she immediately becomes a crucial part of a Fever squad that has its sights set on contending for the 2025 WNBA Championship.
