The Wisconsin Badgers are gearing up for their upcoming Big Ten Tournament appearance, set to begin on Thursday, where they will compete as the No. 5 seed.
A major concern for the team leading up to the postseason has been the health of Max Klesmit, who suffered a lower-body injury during Wisconsin’s dominant 88-62 victory over Washington on February 25th.
Since his injury, Klesmit has been sidelined for three consecutive games. During this stretch, the Badgers have struggled, managing just one win against the Minnesota Golden Gophers while suffering losses to both the Michigan State Spartans and the Penn State Nittany Lions.
On Tuesday, Klesmit spoke with reporters for the first time since his injury, making it clear that he will be available for the tournament.
“Oh yeah, I’m playing,” Klesmit affirmed. “Feeling good. Gonna play.”
He also dismissed any concerns about limitations on his playing time, stating that he has no minute restrictions and is prepared to play all four potential games should Wisconsin make an extended run in the tournament.
Klesmit has spent the past few weeks rehabilitating his injury, which head coach Greg Gard revealed had been an ongoing issue. Despite being sidelined, he remained involved with the team, offering encouragement from the bench and supporting his teammates in any way he could.
His absence has been felt on the court, as Wisconsin has struggled offensively, with players adjusting to different roles. However, with Klesmit expected to return on Thursday, the Badgers will have their senior guard back in action. Their first opponent will be determined by Wednesday’s game between the Northwestern Wildcats and the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
