Auburn Basketball Dominates SEC End-of-Season Awards
Auburn men’s basketball made a statement in the Southeastern Conference’s end-of-season awards, earning multiple honors as announced Monday. The Tigers had four players recognized on the All-SEC teams and claimed both the SEC Player of the Year and SEC Coach of the Year awards. The accolades were voted on by the conference’s head coaches.
Johni Broome Named SEC Player of the Year
Star forward Johni Broome headlined the awards, earning SEC Player of the Year and a spot on the All-SEC First Team for the second consecutive season. Broome put together an outstanding campaign, leading Auburn in points (18.6), rebounds (10.6), assists (3.3), and blocks (2.4) per game. His dominance on both ends of the floor made him the clear choice for the conference’s top individual honor.
Chad Baker-Mazara and Denver Jones Recognized
Chad Baker-Mazara was named to the All-SEC Third Team, an honor he also received in the preseason. The starting wing played a crucial role in Auburn’s success, averaging 12.9 points per game while shooting 46.9% from the field and 38.7% from three-point range.
Meanwhile, starting point guard Denver Jones earned a spot on the SEC All-Defensive Team. A key defensive presence for the Tigers, Jones started every game except one this season, missing Auburn’s recent loss to Texas A&M due to injury. Head coach Bruce Pearl has praised Jones’ defensive ability all season, with his most notable performances coming against Alabama star Mark Sears, whom he held to a combined 7-for-26 shooting across two matchups.
With multiple players earning individual accolades and Auburn positioned as one of the top teams in the SEC, the Tigers will look to carry this momentum into the postseason.
