Indiana Fever Sign Veteran Defender Brianna Turner
INDIA (Feb. 17, 2025): The Indiana Fever have officially signed forward Brianna Turner, a University of Notre Dame alum and two-time WNBA All-Defensive Team selection. Turner, who played for the Chicago Sky in 2024, joins the Fever as a free agent, bringing her defensive prowess and veteran experience to the team.
Fever Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Amber Cox expressed excitement over the acquisition, emphasizing Turner’s impact on the defensive end.
“Brianna has proven herself as one of the WNBA’s elite defenders throughout her career,” Cox said. “Her shot-blocking ability and rebounding skills will add significant depth to our post rotation. Beyond her physical talents, she has a high basketball IQ, plays at a great pace, and will serve as a strong veteran presence for our team both on and off the court.”
Turner, eager for the new opportunity, highlighted the Fever’s commitment to its players and its winning mentality as key reasons for joining the organization.
“I’m ecstatic to be part of the Fever and to compete for a championship,” Turner said. “The team’s dedication to investing in women’s basketball and creating a professional environment for success really stood out to me. The front office and coaching staff have built an exciting and competitive roster, and I’m looking forward to learning and growing with this group. I can’t wait to arrive in Indiana and get to work!”
A Defensive Standout
Since entering the league in 2019, Turner has established herself as a defensive force. Over six seasons, she has averaged 4.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game, consistently ranking among the league’s top defenders.
In 2020, Turner was named to the WNBA All-Defensive Team for the first time after ranking second in the league in both blocks per game (2.0) and total blocks (43). That season, she also made history by becoming the first player in WNBA history to record at least 10 points, 20 rebounds, five assists, and four blocks in a single game. She followed up with another All-Defensive Team selection in 2021, finishing the year ranked sixth in offensive (2.4) and defensive (7.0) rebounds per game, as well as eighth in blocks per game (1.3).
From Rookie Sensation to Veteran Leader
Originally selected 11th overall in the 2019 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream, Turner was traded to the Phoenix Mercury before making her league debut. She quickly made an impact, earning WNBA All-Rookie Team honors in 2019. That year, she finished third among rookies in rebounds per game (4.1), and over her final 14 games of the season, she posted averages of 6.9 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks.
Turner spent five seasons with the Mercury before joining the Sky in 2024. Now, as she embarks on the next chapter of her career in Indiana, she looks to continue her defensive dominance and help lead the Fever to success.
