As the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for the 2025 season, managing salary cap space remains a priority. On Thursday, the team made a financial adjustment to free up funds for future transactions. According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Pittsburgh restructured linebacker Cole Holcomb’s contract, creating $4 million in cap space.

Holcomb has been sidelined since November 2, 2023, due to a dislocated knee, missing the entire 2024 season. However, he has now fully recovered, and the Steelers highly value his leadership, expecting him to play a key role in 2025.

Originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by Washington (then the Redskins), Holcomb spent four seasons there before signing a three-year, $18 million contract with Pittsburgh in 2023. Before his injury, he appeared in eight games for the Steelers, recording 54 total tackles (31 solo), four tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

The 28-year-old linebacker is poised to be an important piece of Pittsburgh’s defensive plans moving forward.
