When the Indiana Fever secured the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft lottery, there was no doubt about who they would select.
Iowa’s Caitlin Clark was the top player in the draft and came into the league with sky-high expectations. From the moment she stepped onto a WNBA court, she proved she was ready for the spotlight, delivering a historic, record-breaking rookie season that solidified her status as one of the league’s biggest stars.
Despite Clark’s individual success, the Fever were eliminated in the first round of the 2024 WNBA Playoffs, highlighting the need for roster improvements. The front office responded by making key offseason moves to elevate the team. Indiana retained Clark’s star teammate Kelsey Mitchell and added experienced veterans such as DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, and Sophie Cunningham.

With these new additions, the Fever have transformed into a legitimate contender for the 2025 season. The team now boasts the playoff experience that was missing a year ago, something Clark addressed in a recent interview with ESPN.
“They know what it takes to win; they know what it takes to get to the finals; they know what it takes to win championships. I think it’s exactly what we needed in our locker room,” Clark said.
While Clark remains the focal point of Indiana’s success, she understands that winning in professional basketball requires a strong team effort. Despite the media’s intense focus on her, she recognizes the importance of chemistry and depth in making a deep playoff push.
“I think it will be a lot of fun to get in the gym and be with my teammates and just start putting the pieces together and see what works or what doesn’t,” Clark explained. “But I think we’re going to have a lot of different options to do a lot of different things. I think that’s what’s super exciting.”
Beyond the team’s on-court aspirations, Clark also embraces the significance of what the Fever are building.
“This is the franchise of all women’s sports, I say, no matter what sport it is. They see the type of crowds we get, the excitement we’re generating not only in Indiana but all across the country,” Clark said. “I think the next few years are going to be amazing for this franchise and will continue to be for, hopefully, the next 10 years. Hopefully, we win a few championships.”
With an improved roster, Clark and the Fever have a real shot at a deep postseason run in 2025. She is already one of the biggest names in the WNBA, but if Indiana can secure championships early in her career, she has the potential to become one of the greatest players the league has ever seen.
