The Tigers’ top scorer once again showed that it’s his award to lose two days after Auburn basketball built a website for Johni Broome’s National Player of the Year campaign.
With 31 points and 14 rebounds, Broome is 17 points and 14 rebounds away from setting a 50-year Auburn record. Broome finished the second half with flawless shooting and set a career high for points for Auburn.
“I got glances from my teammates. After the game, Broome remarked, “My coaches put me in the right places. Nothing special, just trying to get back to my normal self.”

At the half, Broome had 12 points and six rebounds, demonstrating his dominance right away. But in the first half, Auburn only made 30% of their shots from the field.
With Broome adding 19 more points and four assists to his impressive stat line, the Tigers recovered and shot 59% in the second half.
We just got back into the swing of things, I believe. “Johni Broome played a significant role in that,” Miles Kelly stated after the game. “To be honest, he just took over the game after getting the ball into him.”
The Tigers have made a total of ten 3-pointers in their two wins this week. The Tigers’ only outside-the-arc attempts in the second half came from Broome and Chad Baker-Mazara.
Bruce Pearl, the coach of Auburn, did not hesitate to highlight his greatest player while acknowledging the team’s dismal shooting performance over the week.
He is the player of the year because of this. Amazing poise. The fact that he attacks the rim like he did in this game, is patient and calculated, and plays at a fantastic offensive speed,” Pearl said. At the end of the day, it was the most significant difference. They didn’t, and we had four. And tonight, 4 performed admirably.
Pearl said, “We shot it so well on the road.” “I’m going to look at it, but I’m not really sure why that’s the case.”
Broome put the team on his back and helped Auburn defeat Georgia to complete the season sweep, despite the shooting slump.
Auburn has two more home games left in the regular season and is currently 13-1 in SEC play. Now that his undergraduate career is coming to an end, Broome’s main objective is to become eternal.
