After physicians discovered a cardiac condition, the veteran cornerback said on X that he was obliged to resign medically.
Lofy said on X, “I have decided to medically retire from football due to recent findings in my clearing process here at Rice.”
“I’ve been informed of several heart-related issues, and after consulting with my family and several doctors, I’ve determined that this is the best course of action for my future and my family’s future.”

Time spent by Max Lofy with the Wisconsin Badgers
Even though his football career ended tragically, Lofy had his time with the Badgers to cherish and boast about.
He joined the squad as a three-star recruit in 2020, and in 2020 and 2021, he made his debuts as a true freshman and a redshirt freshman, respectively.
When he tallied 15 total tackles and one interception in 2022, his greatest season as a Badger, he attracted attention.
When he was forced to miss the 2023 season due to injury, his progress was halted.
Despite making few appearances, he was named the starting cornerback for the Badgers last season. He collected three tackles while playing in nine games.

Lofy is still hoping to play the game again.
“This is terrible, but I will not waver in my faith, knowing that Jesus’ grace is enough for me and that my trials and weaknesses are what make me strong,” he stated.
