Kalen DeBoer has had a busy 2025 summer after a disappointing first season at Tuscaloosa. When four-star recruit Jamarion Matthews committed to Alabama on Friday, the 50-year-old head coach made yet another impression.
One of the most prominent names for the class of 2026 is Matthews, a defensive end from Gainesville, Georgia. Even though he was still a year away, he couldn’t help but express how excited he was to join the Crimson Tide.
Matthews stated, as reported by On3 Sports, “I don’t give a p*** about nothing but the Tide.”
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, Matthews turned down offers from LSU, Clemson, and Florida State in favor of DeBoer and Alabama. Additionally, Ole Miss, Penn State, Arkansas, and others actively recruited him.
The top recruit will assist DeBoer in addressing one of Alabama’s greatest problems whenever he arrives in Tuscaloosa. In 2024, the Crimson Tide recorded the third-fewest sack total in the SEC with a total of just 25. No player finished the year with more than five.
DeBoer guided the Tide to a 9-4 record in 2024, his first season with the team.
