DEAL ACCEPTED: Philadelphia Phillies Agreed To $313 Million Deal To Sign Alex Bregman Replacement.

The Boston Red Sox might have a serious issue brewing within their roster. After securing superstar infielder Alex Bregman in free agency last week, reports have surfaced suggesting that current third baseman Rafael Devers is unhappy about potentially shifting from third base to designated hitter to make room for Bregman. While it is not yet a full-blown crisis, there is a real possibility that the situation could escalate. If it does, Devers could request a trade out of Boston as soon as this season. Although such a scenario remains unlikely at the moment, speculation is growing around the league.

One of the teams that could emerge as a suitor for Devers should he become available is the Philadelphia Phillies. Christopher Kline of FanSided recently highlighted Philadelphia as a potential landing spot for the two-time All-Star, noting the team’s aggressive approach to adding star talent.

“It feels like next offseason is when Philly might try to engineer another marquee addition, but we can never count out Dave Dombrowski when a big-ticket player hits the market,” Kline wrote. “The Phillies are in an active arms race with Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York in a highly competitive National League. Stacking Devers behind Kyle Schwarber, Turner, and Harper in the lineup would go a long way toward cementing the Phils as bona fide, top-of-the-top contenders.”

Philadelphia has already been linked to both Bregman and Nolan Arenado as possible trade targets. The Phillies have also reportedly been open to moving their current third baseman, Alec Bohm, in the right deal, making him a potential trade chip in negotiations for Devers. However, while the Phillies may have interest, their ability to pull off such a blockbuster move could be hindered by the state of their farm system.

While Devers’ dissatisfaction remains a rumor for now, the situation in Boston will be worth monitoring in the coming months. If the Red Sox struggle or if Devers remains unhappy with his role, trade talks could intensify, putting teams like the Phillies on high alert for a possible deal.
