GOOD NEWS: Philadelphia Phillies Officially Agreed To A Deal Worth $167 Million To Sign Top Experienced Superstar From….

Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors reports that the Philadelphia Phillies signed veteran infielder Christian Arroyo to a minor league deal on Thursday, along with an invitation to spring training.

Arroyo, who will turn 30 in May, has played in 295 games over his career with the Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Guardians, and San Francisco Giants.

Arroyo signed a minor league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers last year, but because to injuries, he only appeared in 37 minor league games.

In the major leagues, Arroyo has a career.252/.299/.394 batting line with 24 home runs and 120 RBIs. He last played in the major leagues with the Boston Red Sox from 2021–2023.

Arroyo played right field, all four infield, and even went into a lopsided game as a relief pitcher in 2021 while he was with Boston.

Arroyo made 206 plate appearances in 66 games with Boston in 2023, slashing.241/.268/.369 during that time.

Arroyo, a previous top prospect in the Giants organization, had much greater success in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. In 144 games, he added 12 home runs, 61 RBIs, and six stolen bases while slashing.277/.323/.426 (a 103 OPS+;.749 OPS).

Arroyo only went 4-for-22 in Cactus League games last spring, hoping to sign with the Brewers as a non-roster invitee. However, he was optioned to the Brewers’ minor league camp after choosing not to opt out of his contract.

Arroyo was unable to establish himself in Triple-A Nashville due to a persistent wrist ailment that persisted into the regular season. When healthy, he hit.237/.305/.360 in 30 games with the Brewers’ best development team.

Arroyo, who is ostensibly ready to return, will attempt to overcome the battle for a bench position with the Phillies. Infielders Carson Taylor, Rodolfo Castro, Rafael Lantigua, Otto Kemp, and prospect Aidan Miller are also on their list of non-roster invitees.

More: A significant health update is announced by a Red Sox and Yankees Hall of Famer.

Arroyo was listed by MLB Pipeline as a Top-100 prospect before the 2016–2017–2018 season. In the December 2017 trade that sent Evan Longoria to San Francisco, the Giants gave up on him early and traded him to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Over the following two seasons with the Rays, Arroyo made just 36 major league appearances.
