According to MLB Trade Rumors, Christian Arroyo, an infielder, has been signed by the Philadelphia Phillies to a minor league contract with a non-roster invite to camp. Although Arroyo has spent his career playing all over the infield, his preferred position is second base.
Christian Arroyo gets signed by the Phillies.
There’s nothing exciting about this news. Against players who have been with the Phillies for a few years and who all have superior stats, Arroyo will have an uphill struggle.

Arroyo joins a club that is already in a fierce competition for the last bench place, bringing his career slash line (.252/.299/.394). Weston Wilson, who I believe deserves it, would probably take the final position if the season began today. To find out if that changes, the Phillies must still go through spring camp.
In 2022, Arroyo played in 87 games with the Boston Red Sox, hitting for a.286 average in 300 plate appearances. However, he did not participate in the major leagues the previous season because he signed a minor league contract with the Brewers, where he was mediocre (.237 batting average,.664 OPS). To secure a spot on the roster, he will need to put on an absolutely remarkable performance throughout spring training.
I don’t think it would be sufficient even if he performed as well as he did in Boston during his finest season. Since joining the league in 2017 with the San Francisco Giants, the Phillies are his sixth team. Dave Dombrowski and the front office are merely adding some competition and depth to the infield during camp as part of their due diligence.
