The Philadelphia Eagles faced the two-time reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, their second trip to the game in the previous three years. Super Bowl 57 was the last time the Eagles faced the Chiefs in a major game, and Kansas City won.
However, going into Super Bowl 59, the Eagles were aware of the objective. To the astonishment of Philadelphia supporters, the squad was on a mission and carried out the strategy on both sides of the ball as they defeated the Chiefs 40–22.
The Eagles’ defense terrified Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and the Chiefs’ offense was at a loss for solutions. The Chiefs then decided to slow down Saquon Barkley, and star quarterback Jalen Hurts performed admirably on the offensive end of the ball.
But in this game, four guys in particular stood out. One player demonstrated that he should play a larger role in 2025, while three others may not be with the Eagles in that year.
1. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his offense had a difficult time because of Josh Sweat, DE Sweat, and the rest of the Eagles defense.
Considering that they averaged 327.6 yards per game during the regular season, Philadelphia’s defense stopped them to 275 total yards and sacked Mahomes six times. In what may have been his final game wearing an Eagles shirt, the seasoned defensive end made an early impression on Sunday.
Three quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and six total tackles were recorded by the 27-year-old EDGE rusher.
Sweat recorded just four total tackles, one tackle for loss, and no pressures in the Eagles’ first postseason games going into the Super Bowl matchup with the Chiefs.
Nevertheless, Sweat’s outstanding performance in Super Bowl 59 was highly needed, as his enthusiasm fueled the Eagles’ defense. Sweat will be among the best pass rushers available on the open market since this will be his final game wearing an Eagles uniform before free agency.
Before Sunday’s crucial match, Spotrac estimated Sweat’s market value at $56.4 million over three years ($18.8 million average yearly wage).
The seasoned defender may be playing somewhere else in 2025 because he will probably receive more than that. Eagles supporters, however, will never forget his Super Bowl performance.
