After eliminating Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders’ Cinderella run in the NFC Championship Game, A.J. Brown and the Philadelphia Eagles are on their way to their second Super Bowl in three seasons.
The Eagles will now play the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes again in Super Bowl LVII. Philadelphia’s 2022 season ended in a 38-35 defeat to Kansas City.
However, the NFL has announced some penalties for a few Eagles players, including Brown, before the big game. Just before Jalen Hurts’ touchdown run and missed two-point conversion put the Eagles ahead 20-12 with 1:45 remaining in the second quarter, Brown got into a fight with Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore, and the facemask tore his helmet off.
But the only one with a flag was Lattimore. According to NFL Football Operations, Brown was fined $11,255 for his “unnecessary roughness (facemask)” against Lattimore. Lattimore did not get a fine.
However, Brown wasn’t the only NFC champion player to get punished. He really had the Eagles’ lowest fine. In the fourth quarter, defensive tackle Jalen Carter received a $17,445 penalty for “unnecessary roughness (striking/kicking/kneeing).” Benjamin St-Juste, a cornerback for Washington, was also punished $16,883 for “unnecessary roughness (hip-drop tackle)” during the fourth quarter.
Brown has been a reliable presence for the Eagles in the passing game, despite their offensive reliance on Saquon Barkley and the rushing game.
The former Tennessee Titans wide receiver had his greatest postseason performance against the Commanders, hauling in six passes for 96 yards and one score. When the Eagles play the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX in the Superdome in New Orleans on February 9, they will be vying for the second Lombardi Trophy in the team’s history.
