Braves Eyeing Ha-Seong Kim as Potential Infield Upgrade
The Atlanta Braves made their first major offseason acquisition last week by signing veteran outfielder Jurickson Profar from the San Diego Padres. However, this move might not be their last connection to San Diego. Recent reports suggest that the Braves could also be interested in adding versatile infielder Ha-Seong Kim.
According to Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, Atlanta has emerged as a surprise landing spot for Kim, who is projected to sign a deal worth around $49 million. However, after undergoing shoulder surgery, his market value may drop, potentially making him a bargain for teams looking for middle infield depth.
Miller highlights the Braves’ possible need for an upgrade, citing Orlando Arcia’s inconsistent performance and Ozzie Albies’ recent injury struggles. Adding Kim would give the Braves a reliable shortstop option while allowing them to platoon Arcia and Jarred Kelenic in left field—potentially a formula for another NL East title.
That being said, Atlanta faces stiff competition from the Seattle Mariners and San Francisco Giants, who are considered more likely destinations for Kim. Those teams may be more aggressive in their pursuit and willing to offer a higher salary.
If the Braves want to bring Kim to Atlanta, they may need to make a bold move. While his health concerns pose some risk, his defensive versatility and offensive production could provide a valuable boost to the roster, especially with Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr. expected to miss the start of the season.
