Donte Jackson Reflects on His Year with the Steelers and Hopes to Return
PITTSBURGH — As the Pittsburgh Steelers reflect on last season’s roster moves, one of their most impactful acquisitions was cornerback Donte Jackson. Brought in from the Carolina Panthers, Jackson joined the Steelers in a trade that also netted them a sixth-round draft pick, later used to select Iowa defensive tackle Logan Lee. In exchange, Pittsburgh sent wide receiver Diontae Johnson to Carolina.
In his first season donning the Steelers’ black and gold, Jackson proved to be a valuable addition. The veteran cornerback made his presence felt on the field, recording five interceptions, 38 tackles, and a fumble recovery while starting in 15 games. His performance provided stability to the Steelers’ defense, and his contributions played a key role in the team’s successes throughout the season.
Appearing on The Christian Kuntz Podcast, Jackson sat down with his Steelers teammate to reflect on his time with the organization. During the conversation, he made it clear that he hopes to remain a Steeler heading into the upcoming season, although he acknowledged the uncertain nature of NFL free agency.
“I really hope I can come back,” Jackson expressed. “Free agency is coming up again, and I’m just grateful for the opportunity to potentially sign a third contract. Not many players even get to their second, so to be in this position is a blessing. It’s a big opportunity for me and my family. We hope to be back here in Pittsburgh because we love it here. But at the end of the day, business is business. Playing here, especially hearing Renegade in that stadium, was life-changing. I just thought, ‘Wow, this is incredible.’”
Jackson also shared how much the Steelers’ fanbase and organization have meant to him and his family. From the moment he arrived in Pittsburgh, he said, the support and love they received were overwhelming.
“The love we’ve gotten since day one has been incredible,” Jackson said. “For me and my family, it’s been nothing but positive. We truly enjoy this organization, and the fans are amazing. This past season will go down as one of the most memorable years for my family.”
Despite Jackson’s expressed desire to stay in Pittsburgh, questions remain about whether the Steelers will re-sign him. The decision will likely hinge on how the free-agent market values the cornerback. While Jackson’s strong performance this season might attract attention from other teams, there’s also a chance that the Steelers could strike a favorable deal to keep him in Pittsburgh.
For now, Jackson and the organization face a waiting game as free agency approaches. While the business side of football may determine his future, Jackson’s impact in his lone year with the Steelers has already left a lasting impression on both the team and its fanbase.
