Before Boston hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning at TD Garden on Tuesday, Hampus Lindholm was formally placed on long-term injury reserve by the Bruins.
Nonetheless, the crucial defenseman has made progress in his recuperation from a lower-body ailment that has prevented him from playing since November 12.
“No failure. According to team-provided video, Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco informed media during Tuesday’s morning skate that Hampus was making good progress. He is now skating with John McLean, who is also his skating and skills coach. The next step will be to have him join us, either for some or all of our practice, depending on when that is. However, he continues to make good improvement.
Late in the first period of the Bruins’ victory over the St. Louis Blues on November 12, Lindholm suffered a lower-body injury. With 3:08 left in the first session, the seasoned defender blocked a shot from Justin Faulk and went down, never to be seen again.
Sacco also gave an update on Charlie McAvoy’s injury reserve placement.

He is more of a defensive, stay-at-home kind of defenseman. “We’re not expecting him to create a lot of offense for us from the back end, but he should be able to play against some teams and give us some quality, hard minutes … make a good first pass,” Sacco stated. “Just be someone we can rely on to defend the front of our net and be difficult to play against.” Simply move the puck up to our forwards with skill.
In 35 games this season, Callahan has one goal and five helpers for Providence. Over the past three seasons, he has scored 33 points in 175 games with the Bruins’ AHL club.
