Due to injury, Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic have been sidelined by the Dallas Mavericks. Kyrie Irving has a bulging disc in his back, and Doncic hasn’t played since Christmas Day after spraining his calf against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Irving may be sidelined for another week or two, and Doncic won’t be able to play until at least January 25th before being reassessed.
Despite this, the All-Star team continues to get votes for the 2025 All-Star Game. According to the first All-Star vote results, both were ranked in the top four guards in the Western Conference. Both remain in the top four, although Doncic has now dropped a position.
Irving has slightly more than half of Doncic’s votes, while Doncic is about 25,000 votes behind Stephen Curry for the second guard position in the Western Conference. Since frontcourt players make up the top six vote-getters, the frontcourt is controlling the league’s voting.
Doncic has averaged 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists in his 22 games this season, while Irving has averaged 24.3 points on roughly 50/40/90 shooting splits in 30 games.
Fan votes, which you may cast here, now account for 50% of the vote and are no longer the exclusive basis for choosing All-Stars. Additionally, 25% goes to player and media vote.
