Regaining full health is getting closer and closer for the Dallas Mavericks. Obviously, there have been a lot of problems since they lost their two best players, Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.
After some slippage, the Mavericks may strive to improve their seeding and be ready for a postseason run now that the two superstars will be returning.
The NBA trade deadline is approaching, in addition to Doncic and Irving’s impending return to the court. Important decisions will be made around the league in the coming month as clubs try to increase their prospects of winning the title.
The Mavericks’ two key acquisitions of Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington last season were critical to the team’s march to the NBA Finals. This year, will they be active? Although it has to avoid some transactions, Dallas may still make improvements to its roster.
Although Bleacher Report named the Mavericks as one of the “worst landing spots” for the star forward, there has been talk about the Miami Heat and Mavericks forward Jimmy Butler.
“If it wasn’t clear already, the way the team has played while Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving are both out has proven this supporting cast is good enough for the Dallas Mavericks to contend for a championship,” stated Bleacher Report. “And beyond the talent this front office has assembled in Dallas, the” other “guys fit Luka and Kyrie almost perfectly.”
The Mavericks’ roster is designed to be a perfect fit for its two great players, and it does just that. The team’s rhythm will be disrupted if a player like Butler is brought in who doesn’t complement Doncic and Irving.
“The two stars can dominate the ball in the middle of the floor or play off each other, while the rest of the roster is loaded with three-and-D versatility and two of the league’s better rim-running big men,” stated Bleacher Report. “Sacrificing any portion of that for a past-his-prime wing who’ll take ball-handling possessions away from Luka and Kyrie—two of the game’s best offensive players—doesn’t make sense, even if Butler is better in a vacuum than any of Dallas’ current role players.”
Butler won’t improve the team’s playing style, therefore it just doesn’t make logic to make a deal that will eliminate some depth in order to get him. To better complement their squad and superstars, they may instead try to sign a role player or defensive ace like Herb Jones.
