Just in: Juan Soto I promise I will takes the Yankees to…..

Soto takes the Yankees to the World Series; Stanton’s ALCS MVP heroics add to his potential Hall of Fame case; the New York playoff wave; Bombers wear retro turtlenecks; former Yankee pitcher passes away.

The Yankees are heading to their first World Series since 2009. While New York won the American League Championship Series in just five games, nearly every game was a nail-biter. The Yankees won courtesy to some more timely hitting, this time from Juan Soto, who went deep in the 10th inning following an outstanding at-bat. That home run demonstrated why the Yankees paid a premium to get him from the Padres this winter.

Giancarlo Stanton, who hit several home runs in the ALCS on his way to MVP honors, has once again performed admirably for the Yankees this October. After additional heroics last night, he now has 16 home runs in 36 career postseason games, outpacing even Babe Ruth, which has helped offset an injury-plagued Yankees tenure. As an extra bonus, these major postseason moments assist strengthen a possible Hall of Fame case. While Stanton likely has some work to do to make that a reality, his ability to hit when healthy has never been in doubt. New York Times | David Waldstein: This October has been quite fortunate to be a baseball fan in New York, as both the Yankees

With the Yankees playing in the increasingly frigid October weather, numerous players have chosen to wear turtlenecks under their jerseys, evoking a look commonly seen on the dynasty 1990s/2000s club. That’s due in part to the turtlenecks Aaron Judge and company are wearing, which are literally from that era. These turtlenecks had been in storage for many years before being discovered and used, with Yankees players preferring the old-school cotton versions.

Some sad news: former Yankees pitcher Bud Daley died last week at the age of 92. Daley wore pinstripes from 1961 to 1964, helping the Bronx Bombers win the World Series in 1961 and 1962. Daley, a swingman who had previously made All-Star teams with the Kansas City Athletics, pitched eight career World Series innings for the Yankees, never surrendering a run and winning the series-clinching Game 5 against the Reds in 1961.
