Auburn football has announced the addition of a new transfer late Thursday night. Fa’Najae Gotay, a linebacker who played six seasons at Maryland, entered the transfer portal in June to pursue a graduate transfer. After redshirting his freshman year in 2018 and participating in just four games, Gotay became a key player in the Terrapins’ linebacker rotation during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Although he suffered a season-ending injury in the 2021 opener and missed that entire season, he returned to play in every game in 2022 and 2023. Over his college career, Gotay recorded 133 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions, four passes defended, and one forced fumble.
Gotay is the second linebacker to transfer to Auburn, joining returning players Eugene Asante and Austin Keys, as well as Dorian Mausi Jr., a former Duke linebacker. His experience will be invaluable, especially for younger teammates like Demarcus Riddick and DJ Barber, providing them with an additional layer of seasoned expertise.
