FABRIZIO ROMANO: What Chelsea and Victor Osimhen are now discussing ahead of potential transfer

Chelsea are hoping to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli before the transfer window closes tonight.

It will not be easy, with Al-Ahli also after Victor Osimhen‘s signature. However, the Blues remain in the picture as they look to add another striker to their ranks.

Chelsea could sign another centre-forward if they do go on to miss out on the 25-year-old, but he is their priority at this moment in time.

Enzo Maresca‘s side missed a lot of chances in their 2-1 loss to Servette in the Conference League last night, showing that they may very well need another No.9 like Osimhen.

Chelsea in discussions with Victor Osimhen

Chelsea are trying to agree a deal with Napoli for Osimhen, as well as personal terms with the Nigerian.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues approached the Italian club late on Thursday to submit their bid for Osimhen and are discussions with him over his potential salary.

If Chelsea cannot reach an agreement with Osimhen over personal terms, then the Nigeria international is likely to move to Al-Ahli.

It could then see Chelsea turn to Brentford’s Ivan Toney. It has been claimed that Chelsea are willing to pay £50m for Toney.

Why are Chelsea so desperate to sign Victor Osimhen before the transfer window closes?

Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu are the only two recognised centre-forwards in Chelsea’s squad right now, with the latter still only 18.

The club clearly feel that they need more firepower, something which Osimhen should be able to offer them.

The Napoli star scored 17 goals for his side last season and 31 the campaign before that. If Chelsea can add that to their squad, it will give their chances of qualifying for the Champions League a massive boost.

If not, then they will have to settle for an alternative like Toney, or hope that Jackson and Guiu can get the job done. If you are a Chelsea supporter, though, you would like to see an exciting forward like Osimhen arrive at Stamford Bridge before the end of the day.
