Chelsea have been one of the busiest clubs in the summer transfer window and they are likely to complete even more deals on deadline day.
The decision to replace Mauricio Pochettino with Enzo Maresca has resulted in an extensive rebuild of the first-team squad.
The likes of Conor Gallagher and Ian Maatsen have departed Stamford Bridge, while Portuguese duo Pedro Neto and Joao Felix are among the many players to join the club.
One could assume that the Blues will be quiet on deadline day, as they have done so much business already, but that is simply not how they operate.
The Chelsea Chronicle looks at five deals that Maresca’s side could complete on the final day of the transfer window.
Victor Osimhen to Chelsea?
Victor Osimhen’s situation is a strange one. The Napoli striker was one of the most sought-after players in world football last year on the back of an excellent 2022/23 season – scoring 26 goals in 32 Serie A games.
However, a less impressive 2023/24 campaign and a lack of European giants needing a striker has left Osimhen short of options this summer.
Chelsea are still keen to sign the Nigerian, though they are not willing to break their strict wage structure for him. So, it seems that Osimhen will either move to Stamford Bridge for less money than he desires or go to Saudi Arabia.
Blues could sign plan B Ivan Toney
The Blues number one alternative to Osimhen is Ivan Toney. The Brentford and England striker has also been linked with Manchester United but he would prefer to join Maresca’s side.
The 28-year-old would arrive with Premier League experience, accept a reasonable salary and help with Nicolas Jackson’s development. And, he could be available for £50m.
It might not be the statement signing that Osimhen would, but there is a lot to like about the potential deadline-day transfer of Toney.
Shock Jadon Sancho move
Chelsea already have an abundance of players who can play on the wing: Cole Palmer; Joao Felix; Pedro Neto; Noni Madueke; and Mykhailo Mudryk.
The Blues also have Raheem Sterling on the books, who is one of several players they are trying to offload before the deadline shuts.
One club that could be interested in the Englishman is Manchester United. A swap deal between the two teams involving Sterling and Jadon Sancho would make sense for both parties in terms of swapping an out-of-favour player for a new signing.
