Jaguars Release Former Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver Denzel Mims.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released wide receiver Denzel Mims, who previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mims joined the Jaguars roster shortly after being cut by the Steelers on June 19, with Jacksonville signing him the next day. Despite spending the summer in training camp with the Jaguars, Mims was unable to secure a spot on the 53-man roster.

Originally a second-round pick by the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL Draft, Mims entered the league with high expectations after an impressive college career at Baylor, where he earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors. However, his NFL career has not met those expectations, as he has only managed 676 receiving yards on 42 receptions, all during his time with the Jets.

In 2023, Mims was traded to the Detroit Lions, but an ankle injury during training camp led to him being waived/injured. Following his release, the Steelers signed him to their practice squad, a move that made sense given his connection with former college coach Frisman Jackson, who was the Steelers’ wide receivers coach at the time.

Now entering his fifth NFL season, Mims could still have a chance to land on the Jaguars’ practice squad, though he has yet to fulfill the potential that once made him a highly touted draft prospect in 2020.
